This week we are talking again about how the Holy Spirit changes us as we learn about Peter raising Tabitha from the dead.

The Holy Spirit changes us to be more like Jesus so that we can show God to the whole world. When we do the things that God wants us to do, we shine God’s light to everyone around us. Tabitha lived her life helping other people but it was when God changed her circumstances—from death to life—that people were changed too.

Please prepare your kids for our time of offering.

This week we are talking about how the Holy Spirit changes us as we talk about the conversion of Saul.

The Holy Spirit came on Saul as a bright light that revealed God’s special love and plan for him. Saul’s blindness and experience on the road not only helped Saul—now Paul—to stop hurting Jesus’ followers, but also brought visible change in his life.

Please prepare your kids for our time of offering. See “Serving School Children” for more information about our school supply drive for Project Hope.

As we move closer to summer, the ministry team and I are beginning to look toward times of service and play for our children. For over a year, the kids have been bringing and placing their offerings in a box in the front of the sanctuary every Sunday.  They are able to bring any item from food, to clothes, to toys, or money as a means of understanding that we are asked to share with others out of our abundance.

Their food/toy offerings have been distributed to local charities and their financial contributions and moneys collected from soda can donations have been going toward Heifer International to buy animals that can be used to lift communities out of poverty in places around the world.

However, beginning this May through July, we are making their offerings more intentional and local.  We already partner with a program called Project Hope that offers backpacks of school supplies to needy students in the Eugene/Springfield area and we think this program is so important and approachable for our kids that we want to get them involved this year.

So, we are asking parents and kids, and all members of the congregation to partner with us to help to donate school supplies. If you would like to donate school supplies for Project Hope anytime from May to the end of July, place them in the kids offering box on Sunday mornings.

Along the same lines, we want the kids financial contributions to aid local kids too. So, every penny the kids donate and all proceeds from cans starting this May will be given to Backpacks of Blessing to help to feed hungry kids at Willagillespie Elementary School.

We live in a city with so much need and we want our kids to not only be aware of this but also have a heart to help.  Please continue to help and support us and the kids serve other school-age children in Eugene.

Shalom, Anna

Last week we talked about how much courage it takes to tell others about Jesus. In the story, Peter and John told the truth boldly and stayed safe. This week we are talking about being brave again as we talk about Stephen but our story has a very different outcome.
